Apple ID Sign In Error For Messages and FaceTime

Yesterday, my iPhone 6s died. So I charged it and everything looked fine. I went into Messages to see my texts, and I was greeted with this message: "iMessage is Signed Out - an error occurred and your account is signed out of iMessage. You may miss messages as a result. Please go to setting to address the issue." Just like anyone would do, I went to Settings > Messages, and tapped "Use your Apple ID for iMessage." Many times. Eventually it prompted me with "Apple ID Sign In Requested." So I signed in. After half an hour, it said "Unable to Contact the iMessage Server." This happened twice. Under the "iMessage" and "FaceTime" switch in Settings, it said "Waiting for Activation." So I checked that I was on WiFi and Cellular, which I was; and I checked if my time was set correctly, which it was. Then I switched both iMessage and FaceTime off, and I restarted my phone. Even though I did that twice, neither iMessage nor FaceTime activated. A few minutes later, just like usual, it prompted me with "Apple ID Sign In Requested." So I entered my password. It has been loading for 12 hours and it still has not signed me in. Can someone please help me?

Messages - If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime

Messages Troubleshooting

Do you have access to another WiFi network where you can try? That has worked for several people.

Try a forced restart.

Reset Device

If necessary

Hard reset

Do a backup and try a factory reset. Then restore from your backup.

Restore to Factory setting

Backup - Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup

If you still have problems, have someone else attempt to sign in using their Apple ID. If they can successfully sign in and use Messages/FaceTime, it may be your Apple ID. Someone I know had this happen and I was able to sign in using my Apple ID. After a call to Apple Support and then being elevated to a tier 2 support person, it turned out it was a problem with their Apple ID. It took the software engineers 3-4 days to fix the problem. When calling Apple, make sure you tell them it is an Apple ID problem so you don't get charged.

You can also try signing in on another device/computer. There have been a couple of posts where people's device/computer was blocked. You will need to contact Apple for that problem also.
