Need more TB3 ports.

Hello All,

When I bought a 27" iMac four months ago, I debated whether I wanted this machine, with two TB3 ports, or the new Mac Mini, with four TB3 ports. The more powerful iMac won out, and I assumed I would just buy a TB3 Hub - you know, like we used to buy 4-, 7- or 10-port USB Hubs? I just (and incorrectly assumed) someone was making a 5-port TB3 hub, but I cannot find anyone making one. My application is audio recording. There are a few TB3 audio interfaces with a second daisy chain port, but they seem to start at about $3K. At the moment, I am looking in the $1k-ish price range, so, no daisy chain port. Does anyone know of a company making a TB3 Hub?

Thanks,

Lou

There are no Thunderbolt hubs or docks with more than two Thunderbolt ports (one of which connects to the computer). The only way to connect more Thunderbolt devices is to get devices with two ports so you can daisy-chain them.

Yes, I suspected that was the answer, seeing as how I cannot find a hub on the internet. I have made a request to MOTU, asking them to add a second TB connector when they start upgrading their TB2 interfaces to TB3. But who knows if my request made it past the person who read my message..... we shall see....

Felling a bit screwed. But I should have looked for a hub before I chose the iMac over Mac Mini. No regrets though, this computer is blazing fast. Still loving it after four months of ownership.

Thanks again, Malcom,

Lou
