I have a macbook air that does not have wifi.
The wifi symbol at the top of the screen has a cross thru it and states "wifi: no hardware installed"
I have updated via bluetooth.
The macbook has not been dropped, or damaged in anyway.
Please tell me how we fix the problem

The error message displayed "WiFi: No hardware installed" means that either WiFi adapter is not installed in your Mac or it has failed. In your case it is installed but has failed.

Thanks Dominic, unfortunately this did not work it is still saying there is no wifi installed
