MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) + Boot Camp Windows 10 = Stuck @ Getting Ready

Hi,

I'm running macOS Catalina (10.15.2), fresh install, no other partitions. I've downloaded Windows 10 (1909, 1809, & 1607), all have failed and getting stuck during the first boot after all the installation is completed. I see the 'Getting Ready' window, with the spinning dots.

I've waited over 4h. No other USB devices are plugged in. I've turned off FileVault. I'm running out of ideas here. This is my 8th attempt...

Can someone help?

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.15

Well, i'm not completely done experimenting.. just explaining what ive done so far.

Let me re-explain the steps i've got working:

  • Use boot camp assistant to create USB Key and install Windows 10 v1511.
  • [ Cancelled the Boot Camp drivers installation]
  • Reboot bac into your macOS
  • Installed Parallels Desktop (i used version 14)
  • Load your Boot Camp partition in Parallels
  • Copy Win10 v1909 ISO file to C: drive
  • Mount ISO
  • Run Setup.exe to Upgraded to 1909
  • [ It will reboot a few times inside Parallels Desktop]
  • Once completed, boot directly in your winOS partition

At this point, you have a working Win10 v1909 os

But installing the Boot Camp drivers at this point broke my Windows :/

I had the same problem of mkellerman, using an early 2014 macbook air 13 inch. I bought this macbook without ssd and I used a 512gb ssd pulled from an early 2015 macbook air SSUBX type, faster than the original SSUAX one. I tried for over 1 year to install Windows 10 with boot camp assistant but I solved today after reading this thread doing smc + nvram reset and using Windows 10 iso version 1511. Now I can use Win 10 but I can't do windows upgrades, cause everytime I try to install updates Win 10 freezes and I have to turn off the mac. By the way, is ctrl+alt+canc working on macbook too? How can I do windows updates? thank you for your help

Working on updates 88%... and frozen.

This is SysPrep, yet again. I have consistently seen such failures for older Intel GPUs.

im about to throw this MacBook out the window.. :/

Should you not throw Windows out of the Window, instead? 🤪

Do you really need anything beyond 1511, though? I had 1511 running for 3+ years on a 2013 rMBP, before it upgraded to 1903.

Okay, little update:

installed 1511, no bootcamp drivers.

boot into mac

installed parallels desktop

parallels into bootcamp

copy iso to c: drive

mount iso

upgraded to 1909

boot directly into windows

...

it worked!

then I installed bootcamp drivers.. and everything went to *****.. I get the login screen, but windows is not receiving any mouse/keyboard input... it freeze up. I maybe get 2 seconds of input.

im going to try to reinstall 1511, with bootcamp drivers, and then upgrade in parallels after the fact.

stay tuned
