Having an issue pairing my iPhone 6 and apple watch series. iPhone iOS not up to date?? It stops pairing and says my iPhone is out of date and I have to update to the latest version of iOS.

I am having an issue pairing my iphone 6 and apple watch series 2 my daughter just handed down to me. It stops pairing and says my iPhone is out of date and I have to update to the latest version of iOS. I select update now and then get a message saying your software is up to date. I read something saying I needed to update the watch software but there is no "my watch" in settings and no options in the app. I had the same results trying to pair it to my wife's iPhone 6s.

Apparently, the watch has been updated to the current version of WatchOS. It will not work with your phone. It requires an iPhone 6s or higher running iOS 13.

If you're being told that the phone is up to date running iOS 12.4.4, it is NOT a 6s. It is a 6.
