Older music won't play on my new phone

Songs in my itunes library that were mp3, no longer work in my new iphone 11. They still play in itunes and on my ipod, but they are greyed out in the playlists on my phone. If I try to play them I get an error message that says "This song is not available in your country or region."

Greetings Matchabelli,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! I understand you're unable to play music on your iPhone, as you're receiving an alert that the song isn't available in your location.

If you're an Apple Music member, attempt to search for a different version of the song, as outlined in the following article: If your songs are grayed out - Apple Support

  • " Artists and content providers might change or remove music from the Apple Music catalog. Search Apple Music to see if that song is available under a different name or file. If it is, add the song to your library so it's no longer grayed out.
  • The song might not be available in your country or region and will appear in gray text when you search for it in Apple Music."

If this is DRM-free music that you've synced to your iPhone from a computer with iTunes, then test the behavior after removing the music from your iPhone and syncing the music back to your device: Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support

Cheers.
