I keep seeing that if you purchased a Mac, phone, etc after September you get 1 year free of Apple TV but my brand new MacBook from December says I only get a week... why is this?

If your new device won’t offer you the year-deal automatically, then contact Apple Support. They can assist in getting you the promised service.
