Failure to update to macOS 10.15.2

I am unable to update to macOS 10.15.2. I have tried the following:

  • Updating through system preferences. In this case it looks like it gets through the download but then fails silently and continues to say I need to update. Rebooting does nothing.
  • Updating use the manually downloaded installer (delta and combo). I get an error message stating: "The Installation Failed. An error occurred downloading one or more packages for the update product."
  • Reinstalling via macOS Recovery and macOS Internet Recovery. I get an error message stating: "Downloading installer information to the target volume failed."


Looking at the install.log in Console after trying the combo update, I see the following:

2020-01-11 22:22:48-07 MacBookAir softwareupdated[442]: SoftwareUpdate: Could not obtain bridgeOS update required for adoption at /var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00000s0000068/C/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/localhost/AdoptedManual/macOSUpdCombo10.15.2.pkg

2020-01-11 22:22:48-07 MacBookAir softwareupdated[442]: Manual product is nil, therefore an error occured, stashing token will NOT be created...

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262  in some instance this is all it takes.

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. Login and test.

I've also gone to /var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00000s0000068/C/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/localhost/ and it looked like there was a bridgeOS update (I'm not too sure what all is supposed to be there). I noticed that there were still files in that directory even on reboot so thought they might be interfering so I rebooted in safe-mode and then again normally and verified that the temp files were deleted. Still didn't seem to work.

Can you connect your MacBook Air to your router using either a Thunderbolt to Ethernet cable or USB to Ethernet cable.

This will provide a more robust connection to the Apple servers. Do not use the mac while it is downloading, and if other devices share the same internet connection don't use them either. Restart your mac and try downloading either the Delta or Combo update.
