Disable trackpad touches while typing?

I use a macbook pro at work.

The trackpad is way too big because whenever I am typing, my wrist touches the trackpad and it moves the cursor as I am typing.

There is no way to disable this unless I am using a mouse? Is there a workaround?

I cannot believe that Mac designed a laptop this poorly. This is 2005 PC laptop-level clumsiness.

I cannot use a mouse because I am not at a desk and also do not have all the adaptors that are required to connect things to a mac.

I use a separate keyboard and trackpad because it protects the internal keyboard from coffee/soda/food.

Mac trackpad exceeds the quality of any PC trackpad in knows the difference between random touches and intentional, and size.

Perhaps you can cover the part of the trackpad that your palm touches ... cloth does not generate response as human skin.
