Lost icloud backup?

Prior to updating old iPad Air (was iOS 7! , now going to latest availbel iOS12), I made a backup to icloud (over wifi)

To perform iPad update I had to use iTunes. During update, it said it encountered an error. Only way to get iPad working again was to select "Restore". This performed the update but at cost of doing a factory reset on device.

Once iPad working again, attempted to restore from backup but there was no backup available (even though backup setting on device seemed to know (perhaps from Apple Id records?) that a backup was done the previous day?

Have tried searching iCloud (using icloud.com and advance settings to restore deleted files etc) but no record of the backup. Do not know what has happened to it

NB: I am kicking myself that I did not do a backup to local computer first (then I would have total control over the management of the backup - just presumed all would be ok with iCloud etc)

NNB: did not have any other backups :-( [lesson now learnt!]

So, is that the end of my data?

Is there no way to get/ask for any 'backup' of iCloud contents?

I have seen websites saying data could be recovered from device using certain tools but I don't think this will work, since the device was 'reset to factory default'?

Hi CAJED,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that you had to restore your iPad in order to install the most recent updates and although you believe you created an iCloud backup before restoring the device, you're unable to locate it. I can see why you'd reach out about this; I'd like to help. First, I'd suggest using the steps in this resource to see if you can locate the backup you created: Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you're able to locate the backup, use these steps to restore it to your iPad: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

If you're unable to locate a backup to restore to your device, there isn't another method of recovering the information. Certain information that was synced with iCloud, such as Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, and Notes will return to the device after you've signed in and enabled these features in Settings: Change your iCloud feature settings

Best Regards.

Hi

thanks for information. First option did not work (I could not locate the backup on icloud (via icloud.com etc) but when following the 'restore from a backup' option, when it tries to set up the ipad, if I select 'from icloud backup', suddenly I can see the backup I made!

So, very strange that I couldn't see it on icloud but yet it was there?

Anyway, problem solved - ipad content now restored!
