Import of CVS file to XLS ends up in Numbers

In the past, if I downloaded a file from a site as a CSV file, it would load as a CSV file.

Since Catalina has been installed the download to CSV OR and XLS file ends up in Numbers.

I want to export the CSV file as XLS NOT Numbers

How do I do this?

Its like Numbers has taken over the download process.

Why? How to fix?

.csv and .xlsx are file extensions. MacOS (not Numbers) associates extensions with the app used to open the file.

If you want your .csv files to open in Excel by default then in Finder control-click on a .csv file, choose Get Info, choose Microsoft Excel App in the dropdown, and click the 'Change All' button.
