iPhone keyboard

My daughters iPhone 6 keyboard is not working from the 6 7 8 down. Therefore we can not unlock her phone or cancel or use the emergency buttons.

I did google that you can hold the home and power buttons until you see the Apple logo and that will usually work now the problem is, I believe you have to be on a WiFi connection for this to work and the phone won’t do the auto switching once we are in WiFi proximity so any solutions for this fix would be great
