Administrator login

I'm trying to update my MacBook Air and it is not letting me as I have to enter as an administrator. I don't know what this is, so I put the same login info that I use to log in, into my computer (same username, and same password), but it says its wrong.

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.13

Are there any other users on the Mac?

Did you ever change the username of your account?


If yours is the only user, it should have admin privileges. If you changed the name, you may have stripped off those privileges.


If there is another user, it may be the admin user.


Look in Users & Groups system prefs to see if the checkbox next to "Allow user to administrate this computer" is checked.

If not, and there are not any other users, see this tutorial to create one:
