When I uncheck the metronome during playback, it doesn't shut if off. I recorded the track w/ the metronome running so I'd record my part in perfect time but the blasted thing won't shut off when I want to just hear the instrument played back.

Thanks Keith. I'm not sure, actually. It never occurred to me that the metronome track could even be embedded in the track. In ProTools you can turn it off when listening back. How do you record a track, with the metronome engaged, without having it embedded in the track itself? Is there a way to do that?
did you wear headphones when you recorded the track? Otherwise the microphone will also pick up the metronom sounds.
Are you sure you didn't record it?
