SD slot doesn't work on MBPro (2012) - OS Mojave

Hi all, I have a mid 2012 MBPro whit the OS Mojave on (updated last year), my problem is related to the SD card slot: it isn’t able to read the card and show it on the desktop.

Once the card is inserted in the slot I can’t see anything on the DiskUtility, so probably there are two possibilities:

1) it’s broken.

2) There are some firmware/driver problems on Mojave for that specific slot.

What do you think about my issue? any advice?

thank you!
