Update in App Store broken

Just received yesterday a MacBook Pro. 13in 2,4GHz Quad-Core, 16GB. Run macOS 10.15.2

Right out of the box the update in the App Store of GarageBand, Pages, Keynote, iMovie, and Numbers does not work. When I click "update" it prompts for the Apple ID password, I type it in, the wheel of the app spins for a few seconds and then goes back to showing the "UPDATE" button.

I edited my profile changing the payment option. I rebooted the machine. I re-installed macOS. Neither action made any difference. Internet is working just fine. All other services/apps that require me to type in the Apple ID and password work just fine.

The five apps are Apple's, the OS is Apple's, the computer is 1-day old. This is Mac #8 or #9 I buy, never had any problem right out of the box, pretty disappointed.

Any help appreciated, tnx.

These apps are free to everyone. Hide these apps in the Trash. Then download them new from the Mac App Store. You will get the most updated versions and should have no issues going forward with updates.

If the above is successful, empty the Trash.

If you click on your name at the bottom left corner of the Mac App Store app, do those apps appear in the Purchased list with an Accept button? These apps usually need to be accepted into your account to use or update them.

I trashed them and downloaded them again and they were installed just fine. The App Store still prompts me for "Accepting" these five apps in order to have future upgrades, and if I go through the accepting procedure I still get the "Could not assign applications to your account" message. So, nothing has changed, really, but at least I have the latest versions.

Thank you very much for your help!!!!!
