There are several support articles that address symptoms similar to those evidenced in your Mac.

• Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201640

• See how apps affect Mac performance, battery runtime, temperature, and fan activity - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203184

For quite a lot of information about batteries, charging, & other issues including troubleshooting:

• About Mac notebook batteries - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204054

Hard to say what cause is behind symptoms; you could reset System Management Controller (SMS)

as part of troubleshooting. (If hard drive/storage is too full ~ that also may contribute to problems.)

Be sure to have an external storage, and make backups including Time Machine, to restore Mac.

There are more things to try. You could use EtreCheck to see where problematic issues may reside;

this generates report, to post in ASC. It runs free, & recommended by many senior ASC contributors.

There may be adware or other things inside mac; this software also runs free, is ASC recommended.

• Malwarebytes for Mac - mac 'antivirus' replacement = maker's site direct link.
