I don't have permission to update iPad.

I keep getting an error when I try to update and iPad. "There is a problem downloading the software for the iPad 'iPad Name'. You do not have permission to access the requested resource." is the message.

This just happened to me, after going through the ringer with chat and phone support I found this solution.

Disconnect from your wifi, and use your phone's hotspot (which is what I did), a Starbuck's Wifi, or go ask your neighbors for a temporary login if they have a different internet provider.

The reason this message popped up is because my internet modem has a security feature which blocked the download.

Once I connected to my phone's hotspot, 3 hours of torture turned into a 14 minute download.

As I had the same problem with a brand new iPad, I've been talking to the apple support since yesterday, they tried everything I also did find on the net, like checking the hosts file, trying other internet connections, resetting internet settings, but as nothing did work, they told me they would investigate the problem further and contact me again today.

Meanwhile I tried to update/restore some other iPads, OTA as well as with different Macs, and got the same error on every device every time.

Today the support called and informed me that the problem is with the Apple update servers, but should be fixed soon. During the conversation, the download suddenly worked and I could finally update the iPad.

I hope that it works for everyone else now as well.

Try restarting the computer. Make sure you allow your device to trust the computer. Disable any firewalls, make sure computer and iTunes software are both updated, and you're using a reliable connector. Sometimes you will get that error and the device will still update as long as you see the down arrow being circled at the top. Just be observant. Make sure you allow the device to trust the computer is very important.

Ok, I have same exact issue on iPad Pro 11". Ive been on the phone with Apple Senior Supervisor almost everyday of this past week and screen sharing. the biggest pain in the *** is the supervisor sending all these files she's taken from diagnostic and such and sending to engineers and them responding with 1 'solution' at a time hence the speaking everyday. still no fix. the question I have for the people who said, 'holding the home button', what do you do if the iPad doesn't have one? Im not trying to update my devices as their on iPadOS 13.3 and iOS 13.3. Whats really weird is after this error message for iPad I restored my XS Max without any issues. Then went back to iPad and still had issue. As far as the IPSW file and the holding of shift, or option, or whatever button it was, was the solution the IPSW file and the that, or were these 2 different solutions that im accidentally combining? I don't feel comfortable downloading any files other than Apple directly. but would someone mind explaining in layman's terms what worked for them?

THANK YOU!!!

Power the device on and make sure you give it permission to trust the computer. Force power it off. Then pressing the side button connect the cable but continue pressing the side button until you see the recovery mode screen (cable with itunes icon in the middle)

Then retry. If you get the same issue power your computer off, disable any firewalls. (Make sure phone is disconnected if it gets this far)

I don't have permission to update iPad.
