Dolby Vision from Netflix on Apple TV4K is too dark / black crush

Dolby Vision from Netflix on an Apple TV 4K looks kinda dark, with black crush in the shadows or dark areas of the image, while on the Netflix app from my LG OLED the Dolby Vision image looks great, more pop, more fine color contrast and transition, a lil bit more brightness, without any black crush and with all the fine details in those dark areas. Also there's a slight loss in sharpness on the Netflix app on Apple TV.

At 1st I thought this will be a general case for Dolby Vision on Apple TV, regardless the app. But I saw this videos on YouTube: https://youtu.be/WbKCZpQN72c and https://youtu.be/t2wCeKk-QjA and I'm thinking maybe it's just for the Netflix app?!

Dolby Vision picture mode settings for both Netflix on the LG OLED and Netflix on the Apple TV are exactly the same.

Can anybody with a Netflix account, Apple TV 4K and an OLED TV make this comparison?

What I have done: went into Netflix on my LG OLED and I have chosen a relevant scene from a DV movie and paused. Then switched signal to the Apple TV on the Netflix app and resumed (it will play from where you paused) and quickly paused. This way I could switch back and forth between the 2 sources and analyze and spot the differences.

I've added some pictures so you all can see the issue I am talking about.

Compatibility and Configurations:

With all these static and sparkles, first update your Apple TV to the latest version of tvOS. Then, if that does not work, go here: About 4K, HDR, and Dolby Vision on your Apple TV 4K

  • Make sure that your television supports HDR10 or Dolby Vision
  • Use the correct HDMI input and settings
  • Update the software on your television
  • Check your HDMI cable
  • Check other components (Sound Bar and HDMO Accessories)

Thank you for the Updates.

On your Router:

  • Try resetting your router. Unplug it and wait a few to plug it back in.
  • Is your Router inept for Streaming and Gaming? If not, you might want to consider upgrading your router.
  • Plug this in to the router using Ethernet. Ethernet takes over Wi-Fi.

On the Apple TV:

  • Unplug it from power; wait 30 seconds; and then plug it back in.
  • Use a different Wi-Fi Network
  • Try a different AppleTV 4K

Perhaps this is Faulty Device?

If nothing above works... take this back to where you purchased it, and see if obtaining a new Apple TV 4K is an option for you.

Note that you have a one-year limited manufacturer warranty from date of purchase. So, if nothing above works, contact Apple. One year or not, contact them, requesting a new Apple TV. Se where things go from there.

  1. there's no static and sparkles at all!!!
  2. my Apple TV is updated to the latest version of tvOS
  3. my television supports HDR10 or Dolby Vision, it's an LG OLED
  4. HDMI input and settings are the correct ones
  5. television software has nothing to do with this issue, but the latest firmware is installed
  6. HDMI cable is working fine, it's a 48GB Belkin
  7. there's no other components; they can't influence the image or the connectivity between the ATV and television
