Before posting the photo the “Include location” option is turned on but it does not seem to make any difference, once the photo is shared to a shared album the geodata is no longer available...
Is this the expected behaviour? Shared photo albums do not support geodata?

It is the expected behaviour and the same, when sharing from a Mac. The places, the, titles, the keywords, the faces, the descriptions will be stripped from the shared photos. If you want to add some information, write a comment, when you share the photo.
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately writing comments to each photo posted is not a feasable solution for me.
It’s a shame that Apple put so much effort into making it possible to take the best possible picture and the drops the ball spectacularly on the photo management side..
