Files on desktop and documents are not uploading to iCloud. Photos and app are working fine.

Any suggestions? I called Apple help and they had me turn off iCloud then turn it back on. And that worked one time, but with new documents added to my desktop they are not uploading again.

When you turned iCloud off and back on, did you sign out of iCloud and back in or go to System Preferences/iCloud (Apple ID for Catalina) and turn iCloud Drive syncing off for a couple of minutes and then back on?
I went to System Preferences and unchecked iCloud Drive. Thank you for responding!
