Unboxing MACBook Air

I’m not tech savvy. I’m setting up MacBook Air. I want to sync to my IPhone. iPhone was set up with an iCloud.com email, but I’m hoping to use gmail.com email. I cannot change phone to gmail. Do I use iCloud email to set up Mac book and then add email later?

Possible to not delete email off all devises -- even with IMAP Kids are off at school but we kept their email accounts on our home Mac since we need to see some of their emails (like asking for tuition to be paid). They also get their emails on their iPhones and MacBooks. Is it possible to set up mail so if we delete at home on our Mac, emails do not delete from their devises and vice versa. Up until this morning, I could delete my emails off my iPhone and it wouldn't delete from our home Mac and vice versa but in bumbling around trying to figure out how my setting differed from the kids settings, I changed something and now my iPhone and Mac email are synching so deleting off one deletes off the other (ugh). I recall at one time being able to check "delete from server" but I do not see that selection anywhere now. Help.

Email settings to work best I use my Mac book pro for 99.9% of my email. I occasionally look at it on my iPhone. Ideally what I’d like to to is have my MacBook download the email and the delete it from the server. If I use my iphone I want to see it/them maybe reply, but hold them on the server until I open the MacBook and download all the mail regardless if I saw it or not on my iPhone. Is there a way to set that up? One have imap the other pop.

You can have both, or as many email accounts as you need/want.

Keep each account synchronized between all devices by ensuring each account is configured as an IMAP account.
