i have Homekit temperature sensors but the Home automation option "when a sensor detects something" is grayed out.

i have several Homekit temperature sensors. Including one for our spa. I would like to get a notification (e.g a text msg, alert on my phone, slack message, email) when the temperature reaches a specific value.

However, when i try to set up this automation in the Home app, the option for "when a sensor detects something" is grayed out on both my mac and my iphone.

i'm using an apple TV as my Homekit hub.

I've researched this and have enabled notifications for Home and for system services/Home. still doesn't work.

any suggestions?

thanks

Greetings, dkossman.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you have some questions about your HomeKit sensors. I’m happy to help.

Please navigate to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Home and ensure “While Using” is selected. Then, navigate to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services, and ensure that HomeKit is On. Set up your HomePod, Apple TV, or iPad as a home hub - Apple Support

Please let me know if this helps.

Cheers.
