MacBook Pro screen is black

My MacBook screen is completely black, I try to connect to a tv through HDMI cable and I am shown the password area but as soon as I click enter the tv screen goes black.

not sure what to do, the computer seems to be working fine but there is a big problem with the display and also the hdmi connection...
