What is a best practice to back up a Mac laptop?

What is a best practice to back up a Mac laptop? If I choose to back up to an external drive, do I need to have that connected to the laptop all the time?

You do not need to be connected at all times— I connect my TM once a week.


TM local Snapshots are kept on board for 24 hours—
