Any suggestions for how to fix this?
I updated to Catalina and am using Music, and am no longer using iTunes. I’m only seeing posts from 2012 & 2013 that suggest I uninstall and reinstall the legacy application iTunes (which shouldn’t be connected to Apple Books anyway?) which sounded like a bad idea.

Did you try killing and relaunching Books?
Did you try rebooting?
If you tried both those things and neither helped, then I'm guessing that your only recourse is to update macOS, or re-install the existing version if you are already on latest.
A reboot did the trick.

Glad it worked out for you. Just curious - did reboot help or did you resort to macOS update/re-install?
