Command-H to hide front window

Command-H has always hidden the front window. Now with a brand new i9 iMac 10.15.2 and the accompanying Apple Wireless Keyboard with Numeric Keypad the key-command no longer works as it used to. Command-H will close/hide open windows one at a time, but not the last one. My intention is to close windows leaving only the desktop as was previously possible. Thoughts on why this is happening and how to regain the close-the-last-window capability?

This is interesting. I'm able to duplicate this behavior as well on a 2012 MacBook Pro w macOS Catalina, but it seems limited to Finder windows.

Is there a window for any particular app that is being stubborn in your case?

For me, however, this will continue to be a non-issue because I use Spaces and usually have one that presents an empty desktop only. It's very quick to summon that space with a keystroke, control-1(⌃1), for example.

If you don't use Spaces you may want to look into it - it's part of the OS, managed by Mission Control.

I appreciate your reply.

I have been having this problem for the few days since setting up my new iMac.

But at the moment, I am having trouble repeating the problem regularly.

Of interest, at times the "Hide Safari" and "Hide Others" menu item is grayed-out, and as one might expect, the key-command does not work. I don't remember ever seeing them grayed-out before in an open app. There ways always the desktop behind them to escape to.

I will have the opportunity to get on another similar machine to see if I can replicate it.

Mean time I will ignore. Ever noticed how some computer problems just go away?
