I just upgraded my iphone to a new one. On Imessage I have the normal keyboard (include parenthesis). However when I try to sign in to my Google apps the keyboard that show up does NOT have parenthesis. Why? Is Apple attempting to discourage people from using Google products?

You mentioned that you're not seeing parenthesis in the keyboard while using Google apps. If this is only happening with Google apps, try removing all keyboards besides the English keyboard under Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards: About the keyboards settings on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
Also, you may want to check for any app updates: Update apps or use automatic downloads
Finally, try removing the affected apps and reinstalling them from the App Store: How to delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

That's because you are prompt to enter your email and keyboard shows only those characters that are allowed to be used with email address field.
When you switch to password field you'll get more characters to choose from.
