I tried to change my administrator name

hi I changed my account name on my Mac book air after the change I restarted my computer but the old name still remains.

I went back to the settings and the computer is requesting for my administrative user name and password when I enter the new name it does not go through, same goes with the old name.

also the account is showing as a standard account on the left top corner
