change location of my user folder
I need to change the location of my user folder as my hard drive gets too full, have an external drive I'd like to allocate it to. At least my desktop and downloads as a bare minimum.

Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups and select your user account. Right click or command click and choose Advanced. There, you can change your home directory.
Before doing this, you should copy your existing home directory to the external drive. Then you will be able to select the new directory.
Also, you will need to be using a separate administrator account to do most of this. You will need to user your current user account to copy the home directory so that it has the correct permissions. Then, log out of that account and into your administrator account. Then you can change the home directory of your main account.
And make sure to have a backup before doing anything. This can be a high-risk operation.
