Save and Save as not working

Hi. I'm running Catalina10.15.2 and MS Word 16.16.18. Excel and Powerpoint run fine. When I try to save a Word document, I don't get any kind of dialog box or error. It may be saving the file somewhere with the default name. When I try to do a Save as, it does not bring up the Save as screen. Anybody having this issue and if so, has anyone found a fix?

Save command not working For the last several days, I haven't been able to use the Save command in Pages when I create a new document. Neither using the Command-S on the keyboard nor going to the File menu and scrolling to Save generates a response. I have to go to the top of the document where it says "untitled," click on the space, type the new file name, choose the folder destination, then hit enter. This problem is roughly coincident with the recent software upgrade to Catalina 10.15.5. I haven't had any other problems with Pages, just this frequently used command.

MS Word will not save word .docx document after editing - Mac OS Catalina, Word 16.43 Hi. I have been using MS Word for Mac for years, don't usually have any problems. Currently version 16.43 (Build 20110804) running on Catalina 10.15.7. A .docx document I have downloaded and edited refuses to save to any local disk or one-drive. As far as I can see it is not write protected and Word has write access to the disks. Autosave will not save to any location I set for it either. The 'save as' creates an empty 0 bytes document with any name/directory I set but says it cannot save the document there. The "do you want to save your changes" when trying to close Word has the same problem. Anyone else had this (I believe a great many people have)? Any help much appreciated.

Word for Mac 2019 on Big Sur won't save doc file When I try to save a Word document, the Save command is accepted but the file is not saved. There are no error messages. The Finder shows the previous save date and time. If I Close the doc window, a dialog box appears with a prompt to save the file, the window closes, and then reopens. The document is unsaved and the Finder shows the previous save date and time. If I try to Save As with a new file name, the Finder shows the new file briefly (zero bytes file size) and then disappears from the list. If I try to Quit Word, a dialog box appears that with a prompt to Save, clicking Save produces a second dialog box that says the location of the document cannot be determined. I'm running Word for Mac 2019 (16.43) on Big Sur (11.0.1). The application and (original) file are both located on the computer's hard disk. Both programs appear to be the latest revs. I suspect it's a Big Sur compatibility issue since it didn't happen on Catalina. Any suggests to recover my edits before I loose hours of work? Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you're having an issue saving documents with Word. I recommend taking a look at this article with steps to follow to Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac. This will perform checks and stop certain software from starting up automatically. Once you are in safe mode, test to see if you have the same issue.

Also, check out this article with steps for How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac to create a new user and test the issue in the new account to see if the issue is user specific or system wide.
