Save command not working

For the last several days, I haven't been able to use the Save command in Pages when I create a new document. Neither using the Command-S on the keyboard nor going to the File menu and scrolling to Save generates a response. I have to go to the top of the document where it says "untitled," click on the space, type the new file name, choose the folder destination, then hit enter. This problem is roughly coincident with the recent software upgrade to Catalina 10.15.5. I haven't had any other problems with Pages, just this frequently used command.

If I understand your post correctly, you're not able to save Pages documents normally. I'd like to help.

Let's do some testing to narrow down the issue.

Safe mode will tell us if the issue is related to a startup item or plugins, and sometimes corrects the issue. This article will tell you how: How to use safe mode on your Mac

If everything is working correctly in safe mode, but is not working when you get back to your user account, please check the section titled "If the issue doesn't continue in safe mode" for the next troubleshooting steps.

If the issue continues while in safe mode, a test user will let us know if the issue is isolated to your account, or system wide: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac. If the issue happens in the test user also, then please check the section titled "If the issue happens in the other account."

If the issue continues, let us know the results of each of these tests and if this happens with all documents in Pages or with one specific document.
