I upgraded my 3G from 3.2.1 to 4.0.1 this afternoon and now can not connect to wifi, otherwise it seems ok. Hopefully Apple will fix this problem soon as my trouble does not seem unique:

Thanks for your suggestion. I gave this a whirl but it did not work. It is strange - Under the settings tab, wifi networks, it displays my network as connected with a tick, however, at the top of the screen it shows 3G without the wifi symbol and when I check data use it is being clocked against the cellular network data.
Everyone I know has the same problem since downloading 4.0.1 - the phone won't auto connect & if the network is selected then it shows the tick but is not actually connected & does not run, just goes into a loop of the turning circle as if it is having a think. I have no 3G or Edge either. Network reset did nothing other than replicate the issue. Apple seem to be having a bit of a mare at the moment..... when's the solution coming?
Thanks nick101, when I click on the blue arrow next to the selected network the whole section is blank for DHCP, BootP and Static. Should this be the case?

No - you should have an IP address (something like 192.168.1.1) and other info in the fields
It means the wifi router isn't assigning an IP address to the phone. Did you try rebooting the router?
Hi nick101, thank you for your suggestion. It may have worked! As I was leaving for work this morning, I reset my airport extreme, when I got to work the iPhone connected to wifi as usual. A friend there said he'd heard about the problem and thought it could be resolved by switching Airplane mode on and off. I tried this and when I got home it connected to my wifi immediately. So to summarise for the many out there that are having this problem I'd recommend 1) reset your router 2) switch airplane mode on and off.
I upgraded my 3G to 4.0.1 and had the same issue - could not connect to my secure wireless network. It DID, however, connect to my neighbor's unsecured network. I tried resetting Network Settings, resetting All Settings, rebooting my iPhone, rebooting my router, multiple times, all without luck.
I had to do a FULL RESTORE from iTunes, install as a NEW PHONE and now I can connect to my wireless network. But even after the full restore, I don't see any improvement in phone performance. Still slow, still laggy, still crashes (requiring a reboot) with some apps. And now I have a phone set back to factory default. Grr.
restarting the phone does work, also follow these tips;
- go to Settings=> General => Location Services OFF
- go to Settings=> Notifications OFF
- put the iPhone in Airplane Mode for about 3 minutes then removing it from that mode
those are very simple ways into temporarly fix the problems or fix it completely
So does anyone or Apple has the solution? I really need to get the wifi connected. I claimed from the phone insurance company and they decided it cannot be fixed and i have to pay for AUD100 for replacing a new iPhone3G. But the wifi network problems still occurs. Is there any solutions which is 100% accurate from Apple?
I had the same issue and just fixed it today. I went into the settings of my router and reset the ip addresses so that all devices on my network have to get a new ip address and now it works fine. Hope this helps.
Hi, I am no expert but this is what had work for me! First put the phone in the freezer for about 5 min. I wrapped mine in plastic wrapper so there is no moisture getting in. Should this fix the issue and you are getting the signal, sign in and go into option to renew lease on the wifi. After that, go into General and reset the network. All the steps should be done before the phone warm up to room temperature. This has fix the problem for me even when the phone is at room temperature it still locked on to my wifi. Hope this help guys!!
I also *lost wifi connection* after upgrading my 3G to 4.0.1. I spoke via phone to apple support today and they did not seem to know about this problem. They were really nice and tried to help but couldn't suggest anything. I've tried all suggestions on the forums but wifi still won't connect. I'm really lost now; I don't want to downgrade, I want a proper "official" fix from apple and I need it now!
Any news on the next iOS upgrade!?!?
I have no wifi after upgrade. Apple support insist its a hardware problem but it has to be a 4.0.1 problem. Apple support seemed surprised at my problem ... I suggested they check the forum as HEAPS of 3G owners have the 'no wifi' problem!
