iPhone says "Maybe" next to saved contact

out of no where my phone started saying “maybe” next to contacts that i already have saved. My mom for instances, instead of saying “mom” with her picture it is showing her Apple ID name and her little emoji person. It is happening to several of my contacts and i would like to know how to fix it.

Hey there, and thanks for reaching out on Apple Support Communities, kenlee257!

From my understanding, some of your contacts are showing “Maybe” next to them.  It’s definitely important that you can tell who’s calling with a quick glance, so I’d be happy to help.

To start, this is a feature that uses Siri to let you know who may be called and is based on phone numbers included in your emails. You can locate this feature in Settings > Siri & Search > Contacts > Show Siri Suggestions for Contacts.

If you disable the feature, do you still see your Mom’s number located in your Contacts? If not, you may need to go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts and check each account to be sure that any contacts you want synced are enabled.  If everything looks good there, I’d recommend going to Contacts > Tap Groups on the upper right, then determine if any accounts are deselected.  If so, enabled one, tap Done and see if the contact comes back.  Enabling each one individually can help prevent any unwanted contacts from being synced.

I hope that helps, and thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  Best regards!

Thanks for keeping us updated, kenlee257!

When disabling the feature for Siri Suggestions, you will lose the "Maybe:" in front of the names. Were you able to check your Contacts to see if they are listed there? If so, I'd suggest checking to see if you have an iOS update available in Settings > General > Software update. I'd advise ensuring you have a recent backup of your data prior to updating using: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Once you've updated your device, Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support. If you're still experiencing the same issue, Contact Apple Support.

Thanks again for using Apple Support Communities, and have a great day.
