Space Pilot Pro with FCPX?

Wouldn’t it be amazing to be able to use our snazzy 3D modeling accessories with FCPX? Cheetah 3D supposedly works but in practice not so much. The Space Pilot, Space Mouse and Space Navigator would be a wonderful additional input device.

Please don’t say ‘just use a track pad’ because i already do that with my left hand for jogging the timeline etc. I have a 3 button vertical mouse on my right, and the track pad on the left to pick up the missing sweep control that is so divine for timeline manipulation.

As far as I've been able to find, the 3d mouse was only ever compatible with Motion 4, and that was more than 9 years ago. Motion 4 had a special pane in preferences that allowed you to set up external 3rd party controllers (like MIDI)... but that pane no longer exists. On 3dconnexion's website, for all the supported software listed, FCPX and Motion are not included. If you make a request through Feedback, I think a controller like this would be particularly useful for 360º video and 3D Text, but you would only ever see support for the basic Transform effects. I don't see how Motion templates could be wired in with the complexity of setups that can occur (rigged parameters, "proxy"-linked objects, etc...)

I didn’t see a question. Wouldn’t it be great if you could use it? You mean that? Sure. Why not, but nobody on the forum can help with that. You should use feedback to make your request.

Well, I was going to say "use...:" but no. You want an input device with a lot of programmable buttons.

So I'll just mention the most flexible, ergonomic input device, which has an enormous number of programmable buttons, and that totally works with FCP X. It is called a KEYBOARD 😎

Does anyone have experience making the Space Pilot Pro work with a Mac, and if so could you share your hack?

Is that more question-y and to your liking? My apologies for not spelling it out so clearly. You guys are kinda ruthless here yanno, for a second I thought I was on Facebook.
