Guest User: logout problem

I log into my guest account and when I log out, the logout procedure never finishes and so the mac is hung waiting for the logout to finish. The only way to resolve this is to force a shutdown with the power button. This problem does not occur with any other account, only the guest account.

Others have reported this issue and none of the responses have helped. (I have so far not resorted to a complete reinstall of the OS: if I can't find some other fix, then I will do that and probable upgrade at that time.)

Sadly anymore a Complete Reinstall is what is required, but...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

If still no soap...

Thanks for the reply. I did try a safe mode fix and it didn't help. I am already pretty far behind on my OS level so I guess I am just going to install the latest version and then afterwards do a selective restore.

Not yet. But my plan is to install the latest OS (as I said earlier, I am pretty far behind). Once I install it, I will test again and I’ll report back on my success.

i have a second MacBook Air on which I reinstalled on a clean drive my current MacOS version and the guest account worked perfectly on it.

My suspicion is that one or other of the remote control software apps I have installed (ie GoToMeeting & etc) may be the culprit. I am going to reinstall those one at a time and test after each one.

I’ll let you know the results when I’m done.
