Hello,

With your TV being AirPlay 2 compliant, it can now act as an AirPlay receiver to receive content from other Apple devices. It does not mean the TV can function as an AirPlay transmitter meaning your TV cannot connect to an AirPlay destination (like HomePod).

Well, I should have been more specific about TV. Apple TV didn't even occur to me, though had it been about Apple TV I would have said so. My situation involves a "regular" TV, more specifically a 2019 LG OLED with LG's webOS, now Airplay 2 compatible. I do appreciate your reply, and especially for the Apple TV specificity!

Once more, thank you, and you are correct. Later in the day, before I digested your latest answer, an Apple Tech Supporter rephrased it for me. "Your Homepod cannot act like a TV soundbar, even when using Airplay 2.

You can select HomePod as an audio destination on your Apple TV.

Settings > Video and Audio
