Color banding when dolby vision is activated.

Your HDMI cable may not be up to the task, please ensure you are using a HDR rated cable similar to:

It's likely on the Philips side, you should contact them to see if they have a firmware upgrade or if they are aware of the problem.

Have you:

• Verified the settings on the Apple TV are set correctly?
• Verified the settings on the TV are set correctly?
• Verified you have adequate bandwith (assuming you are using Wi-Fi) using a tool such as Netsport (if using Windows at home) or iStumbler for Mac OS?

Thanks for your feedback! I did not change the appletv, but I bought some expensive HDMI cables, officially supporting DV with the appletv. But that also did not solve the issue.

But found some similar threads in forums, people have same issues. So it seems to be a general problem, most obviously with Philips TVs. I hope they will solve it with a FW Update one day.

So far I’ve changed the output signal to HDR@60Hz, what helps a lot. But there is still some banding noticeable.

Next I’ll try to find some test pictures or videos and will compare quality between native tv (usb) and appletv. But not completed sure how to handle this exactly.

Hi, did you get this solved? I’ve a 55OLED754 and the behavior is the same. Perfect picture quality with Dolby Vision, but lot of color banding, even for the icons. When setting the AppleTV to 4K mode, it disappears.

How can I see what the TV is getting as the color depth?

Same here, though with the Apple TV I have the perfect all in one device for Netflix, amazon, and as well for TV via Waipu.tv. And it’s definitely not related to the cables, I tested 3, 2 of them completely new. All the same...

maybe it has something to do with the interaction of the Apple TV and Philips TVs.

I'm experiencing the same problems on my Philips 55OLED754. Heavy color banding in the menu's and also in movies while using Dolby Vision. I don't see these issues when I switch back to HDR/SDR, but that isn't a fix for this. I bought the television and the Apple TV especially for the Dolby Vision support :(

I’ll check how it works for my TV, it’s not driven by Android so might be slightly different.

I've already upgraded my HDMI cable to the belkin one, sold in the Apple Store. Unfortunately this didn't solve anything :(

About the 8-bit RGB signal: A developer at Philips told me that the 12 bit ICtCp Dolby Vision signal + Metadata is encapsulated inside the regular RGB 8 bit video signal. RGB tunneling is what it's called. So the information on the television is correct and that system is working like intended.

• Yes, I’ve tried every possible setting. The only setting to prevent the color banding is to put it on HDR/SDR.
• All TV settings are good too. I think I might say that I tried every possible combination of TV/ATV settings, without any luck.
• I’m not using Wi-Fi, my internet speeds are good. Like the others are saying: even the icons in the main menu of the ATV have color banding issues with DV on. So that tells me that the issue is not network related.

I really think it’s firmware related, but it frustrates me that I don’t know if it’s the TV or the ATV..
