periodically, my Imac Keyboard starts acting up.. I type a letter and nothing happens, then suddenly the cursor goes wild and move on its own. If i press delete, the cursor may delete half the sentence already written. The problem stops when i connect the keyboard to a usb port

Sounds like possibly Interference close by.
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
If need be...

Please reset the SMC several times back to back with all peripherals disconnected. The reason to to it several times is sometimes the first attempt does not always work.
If SMC resets doe not work, please restart in Safe Mode per the instructions in Safe Mode Reset instructions

Try This: Reset your SMC and your NVRAM:
Sometimes changes are made to the system and then settings (i.e. for Keyboard and USB port Operability) become corrupted, technically. So, reset both on your Mac.
Keyboard is acting weird.
