Differing header text per page

Hi, I have a pages document in which I would like the header text to be different on one of the pages. Is there any guidance on how to do this?

Hi John,

Mario49's post above covers most of the basics, but unless Header and Footer options have changed in more recent versions of Pages, it is missing one factor.

In the older version I'm using, there is no "Match Previous Page" checkbox, but there is a "Match previous Section" checkbox.

To have a different header on a single page, you need to isolate that page in a separate Section. To do so, Insert a section break at the end of the text on the page before the page on which you want a different header, and insert a second section break at the end of the text on the last page you want to have that different header.

Then uncheck the 'Match previous section' box on the first page of the new section, and enter the different text into the header on that page.

Repeat that action on the first page of the next section, this time entering the 'same' text as is in the headers before the first section break.

In the example below, showing the top part of each page of a four page document (and the bottom part of Page 2), I've inserted only one section break, so both pages after that break are in the second section, and have "Header text 2" in their headers.

Hi johngallagher,

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems like you want to use a different header on a separate page. I would recommend you use this article for more information. Take a look at the "Match previous page" checkbox.

  1. "Move the pointer over the top or bottom of a page until you see the header or footer area, then click any of the three fields (you can use any combination of the fields).
  2. If you don’t see the fields, turn on headers and footers for the document (click  in the toolbar, click the Document tab at the top of the sidebar, then select the Header and Footer checkboxes).
  3. Type your text, or click the Insert Page Number pop-up menu and choose a numbering style.
  4. If you already added a page number on another page, you don’t see the Insert Page Number pop-up menu. Instead, click  in the toolbar and choose Page Number.
  5. If your document uses facing pages and you want to enter different information on left and right pages, click  and select the “Left and right pages are different” checkbox. See Set up facing pages.
  6. To set the header and footer margins, in the Document  sidebar, click the arrows or enter values in the Header & Footer Margins fields.
  7. To adjust headers and footers for a page, click a blank spot on the page (so nothing is selected), click  in the toolbar, then select any of the following:
    • Show header and footer: Select or deselect the checkbox to show or hide the header and footer on this page.
    • Match previous page: Use the same headers and footers from one page to the next. Deselect this checkbox if you want to use different headers and footers for this page."
