Why does my new Mac say that there is not enough space from my old mac?

I've attempted to move the data from my old mac to my new 2019 macbook pro (both essentially the same... 16gb). However, once it began to transfer, the new mac said there was not enough space. I'm not sure how the new mac doesn't have enough space for the old mac data. They are essentially the same. I do not want to lose any of my information from the old mac.

The 16GB is RAM - that's where programs run. But your programs and data are stored on the hard drive and your new computer's drive must be smaller than your old computer. This is quite common for people who own an older MBPro with an old style rotational drive of 512GB or 1TB and have purchased a new SSD based computer.
