Compass on watch no elevation or lat

The compass app on my watch will not show elevation or lat and long. I have tried the privacy setting but I cannot select “while using app”. I also cannot delete the app from my phone to reinstall it. Help.

The answers you were getting did not make sense to me either. Try this: Go to your iPhone --> Settings --> Privacy --> Location Settings --> Compass. There you can change the setting to While Using the App. This will change your setting on your watch and the altitude and other coordinates should appear. Hope this helps!

Hey there Thompm65,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you have some concerns when using the Compass app on your Apple Watch. I’ll be happy to help.

You won’t see your elevation or your latitude/longitude. ‘The app shows you the direction that the top of your watch is pointing, and your bearing appears in the top-left corner.’ Take a look at this article for more detail:

Use the compass on Apple Watch Series 5

If you use the Compass app on your companion iPhone, it does show your coordinates, elevation and other info. Take a look at this article for info on using the compass on your iPhone:

Use the compass on iPhone

Cheers.

Hi Thompm65,

Just to confirm, is the issue with Compass app on your Apple Watch or iPhone? If it’s on the Apple Watch, there will be no elevation listed per the article in the response above. If it’s on your iPhone, it should show your elevation. If that’s not working on your iPhone, try force closing the apps and restarting:

How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone

You may also want to check for any updates before removing the app. If you do have an update available, be sure to back up first:

If you need to remove Compass to further troubleshoot, you should be able to do this using the steps here:

Delete built-in Apple apps on your iOS 12, iOS 13, or iPadOS device or Apple Watch

Restart your iPhone after that, install the app, and see if this helps.

Cheers.

I'm sorry but your reply does not make sense. I checked the article you referred to and here is what it says, "Rotate the Digital Crown up to see your elevation, incline, and coordinates."

So I should be able to see all of these items.

Also, the instructions to delete an "complication" from my watch do not work. While I can get the apps to jiggle, there is not an "x" by the compass app to delete it.

Hi Thompm65,

Thanks for providing that info. To delete the Compass app, make sure you remove it from your companion iPhone first. Then restart both devices and install the app again.
