AppleTV 4K Won't Let Me Listen To My Music Library Without Plasma TV Needing To Be Turned On

Hi. I have an AppleTV 4K. I (like many people) have a plasma TV (mine is a Panasonic) included in my entertainment center/system that hooks up to surround sound speakers throughout my living room. What I USED to be able to do (before AppleTV was updated) was that I had the ability to have iTunes/Music Library playlists playing in the background WITHOUT my plasma TV needing to be turned on. In other words, I could turn off my plasma TV and just listen to my music (from the AppleTV Music library) coming through my speakers from my amplifier. This WAS the way that my system had always worked until a recent update of AppleTV took away that functionality. Now, when I want to listen to music in one of my playlists, I have to keep my plasma TV turn on in order for the amplifier to continue playing music though my living room's speakers. What a drag!! I've already submitted this suggestion in AppleTV's feedback, but I really want this feature to be brought back because I’d like be able to listen to my playlists without having to have my TV turned on. Everyone knows how much electric plasmas use. Some of us want to be able to keep their TV off while still being able to listen to their own music. I really hope that this gets added back in the next update release.

I can test my Panasonic plasma but I no longer have it connected to my speakers, just homepods

I do agree it uses heaps of electricity.

I tested with my set up, turned the tv off , it stopped for a split second but carried on playing.

Maybe it’s the way it’s being routed through your equipment coming from the tv into the receiver or Amp? The HomePods don’t get connected to the tv or Amps. They’re using airplay and only shut off with the ATV 4K being turned off.

I also tested on my other Panasonic/ATV4K and it still carried on playing through HomePods once I turned the TV off.
