Apple Pay contactless not working

I can’t be the only person who this has affected but I upgraded my iPhone 6S to XR just before Christmas. The 6S never has any issues when using contactless payment, and initially the XR worked fine. However, it did become hit and miss at certain stores so assumed this was an issue with the store contactless machine, however, even after a system reset last night, the contactless just refuses to work.

Ours not the case I have on as I’ve tried it out of the case to no avail. For reference I’m using a clear Spiegen gel case.

The NFC charging works so it’s not that.

Any ideas?
