Boot Camp error "an error occured while finalizing the installation"

Hi,

I am trying to install windows on my mac (Latest Catalina version) everything goes fine until the very last moment it says "an error occured while finalizing the installation" and rolls back the partition created.

I've tried freeing some space, Reseting SMC and NVRAM and Using multiple windows 10 ISO files.

P.S: I've installed windows via Boot Camp on the same mac successfully before, I just can't do it now.

Can anyone help me with this please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, alireza1044.

I'm glad you decided to reach out on Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you’re attempting to install Windows on your MacBook Pro running macOS Catalina, and you get this error.

Are you trying to install the latest edition of Windows 10?

This article explains: If Boot Camp Assistant stops responding or says that Boot Camp installation failed

If you’re updated to the latest macOS Catalina version (10.15.3), follow that guide to ensure you’re downloading the latest version of Windows 10.

Install Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp Assistant

You might also make sure you have at least 64GB of free space on your Mac startup disk, and that your MacBook meets the criteria outlined in that article. If you’ve made previous partitions for Windows, you may need to delete those first.

Best Regards.

alireza1044,

Thanks for taking the time to confirm those details. It helps to know that you’re on the latest version of macOS Catalina and that you have plenty of available space.

After a little research, it looks like the stage where your installation is failing is the when the Boot Camp Assistant is copying the Windows files to your new partition.

Can you tell the exact ISO file numbers that you’re using? For example, is it Windows 1703, 1709, 1803, 1809, etc.? I’m asking because some of these versions may have files in the that aren’t compatible with the format needed for a Boot Camp installation. You may need to reach out to Windows to get the best ISO for installation, or ensure that you’re downloading it through the link provided in the last response.

Good luck!
