Boot into Safe Mode (Use Safe Mode to isoloate issues with your Mac and Playing Safe: what does Safe Mode do?) and try scanning from there. Then reboot normally and try again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 14 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:

- What version of iPhoto.

- What version of the Operating System.

- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.

- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?

- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.

- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?

Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Hi Terence,

Mac Majove 10.14.6

My system has worked perfectly until yesterday. I scanned a number of photographs from my HP printer & edited them in iPhoto. While editing the last photo the program suddenly closed. I have tried alt+command & followed the menu on my screen. I have turned the machine off and restarted it again two or three times. iPhoto opens normally but shuts immediately either when I select a photo and often immediately when IPhoto opens.

I receive a message 'IPhoto quit unexpectedly, Click Reopen to open application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple'. I have tried to send a copy of the report but have been unable to find out how to do so. The report is more than 10,000 characters. I have a limited skill level with systems etc and would appreciate relatively simple instructions. I'm not sure how to find out which particular IPhoto system is on my Mac.

If it's iPhoto and if it's on 10.14 then it can only be v9.6.1

Little test:

Create a new library. Import a few pics, see if it works - including editing. 5 or 10 pics is plenty. Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'. You use the same command to switch libraries.

This test will allow us to judge if the issue is with your Library or the App.
