Apple Mail - New Mail messages open in Tabs - I don't want that!

When I open a new mail message by double-clicking on it, it opens in a tab along with other opened MAIL messages. I like tabs for Finder Windows and for Safari -- but NOT for Apple Mail. I want the choice to have each single eMail message that I open-- each one open in a separate window-- a stand-alone message. How is that possible in Mac Mojave 10.14.6?

Thanks very much.

Good day, Steve.

I understand that you’d like to view your emails individually rather than in a tab. I’m happy to lend a hand.

First, launch System Preferences and navigate to Dock. Here, you should have an option for “Prefer tabs when opening documents”. You can select always, in full screen only, or manually. Use tabs in windows on Mac - Apple Support

Then, open Mail and select View > Hide Tab Bar. Read emails in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

Do you messages now open individually?
