My iPhone XR and my MacBook pro cannot see each other in airdrop

I have the following devices

  1. iPhone XR running IOS 13.1.3
  2. MacBook Pro running macOS 10.14.6.
  3. MacBook Air running macOS 10.14.6
  4. iMac running macOS 10.15.2

I want #1 & #2 to see each other on AirDrop but they don't.

#1 can see #3 and #4 and

#2 can see #3 and #4 but

#1 cannot see #2.

I followed the instructions here (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204144 ) to adjust the settings on both the #1 and #2 but nothing seems to help. The two devices are inches away from each other and yet they can't connect.

Please help.

After a couple of hours on the phone with Applecare, the problem is finally resolved. It turns out that my phone numbers and email addresses were on my Blocked list on both my phone and in my Messages settings. Once I removed them, everything worked.

On the computer, I opened Messages, went to the preferences menu, selected the Messages tab, then opened the Blocked list. I found all my email addresses and phone numbers there and removed them from the list.

On the iPhone, I opened Settings -> Phone -> Blocked Contacts. I found all my email addresses and phone numbers there and removed them from the list.

The AppleCare person says this very rarely happens which is why it's one of the very last things he checks. I hope this helps someone else.

Hey silirap,

Thanks so much for your question about being unable to share items using AirDrop between your iPhone and Mac. I'd be glad to look into this with you and attempt to get to the bottom if it.

Let's start by making sure that if your Mac has a firewall turned on that we disable it and test. Learn more about firewalls and how to enable, configure, and disable them in OS X: About the application firewall.

Also, on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > AirDrop and disable it and then re-enable it. Also verify that Bluetooth and Wi-f are on and that Personal Hotspot is off while in Settings. Make sure that AirDrop is set to Everyone and then restart both devices and test.

That should get you started. Let me know what you find out.

Be well.
