People's names Auto correct to all CAPS-

Every time I type my friend's names in texts or FB messenger, it automatically corrects to all caps, EVEN though I have their names in my contacts with the proper capitalization! I've seen the answer to this being to turn off auto-capitalization, but I really love that feature so that i can type "i" and not have to capitalize beginnings of sentences. Surely there's something else that can be done? I've even tried using the text replacement feature, and put in to replace DAVE with Dave, and CAMYE with Camye and all the friends names that it's done that for me--but that's a big pain in the butt.
