camera and microphone not in system preferences

Hello!

I have been able to use Skype for the past 3-4 years without any problem. However, today Skype said it was not able to detect my camera or microphone. I tested both my built-in camera and internal microphone and they both work. I use a MacBook Air OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.

When I try to go to system preferences and go to "security and privacy," the microphone and camera app do not appear. Therefore, I am not able to tick the boxes to allow access to Skype.

Please let me know if anyone can help me fix this.

Thank you very much! :)

Are you using an external camera (e.g. Logitech C920, etc.) or allowing Skype to use the built-in camera of the MacBook Air? If the former, and it is an older camera, MIcrosoft may have thinned older cameras from support, and there is no excuse for Skype when using the built-in Mac camera.

Before I finally kicked Skype to the curb, I would test external camera functionality in Apple's Photo Booth application to ensure the camera was functional, andthen I would visit Skype's Preferences and check the camera there.
